What is ABSORICA LD?

ABSORICA LD is a prescription medication used in patients 12 years of age and older for the treatment of severe nodular acne that cannot be cleared up by any other acne treatments, including antibiotics.

Do not change between ABSORICA and ABSORICA LD or other isotretinoin products.

ABSORICA LD can harm your unborn baby. Avoid ABSORICA LD if pregnant. ABSORICA LD can cause serious mental health problems including depression and psychosis. See additional safety information below.

Improvement you can see

With ABSORICA LD, nearly 8 out of 10 people should expect to see a 90% reduction in the number of nodules in 5 months.* Some patients may see improvements of persistent severe (nodular) acne within the first month. ABSORICA LD works differently for everyone. Results could happen quickly, or it could take 5 months to see visibly clearer skin.

What to know when starting ABSORICA LD

Your dermatologist can help to guide you in this journey toward clearer skin. The innovative formulation of ABSORICA LD allows for lower dosing, and your dermatologist will prescribe the right dose of medication for you. That’s why it is important to take ABSORICA LD as prescribed. Here are other things for you to consider while taking ABSORICA LD.

Uniquely low dosing

The “LD” in ABSORICA LD means “low dose.” ABSORICA LD is the only isotretinoin that offers 4 low-dose options, thanks to its unique formulation. But this low dose does not mean less effectiveness, as ABSORICA LD has twice the absorption of other isotretinoins. Talk to your dermatologist about what dose may work best for you.

Micronized technology

ABSORICA LD features micronization technology that helps your body absorb the maximum amount of medication with less drug.

Move beyond the breakouts

ABSORICA LD should be taken for 15 to 20 weeks or as your dermatologist prescribes. After you stop treatment, keep in mind that your skin could continue to improve over time—even after treatment ends.

ABSORICA LD can be taken with or without food

Most isotretinoins need to be taken with a high fat meal to help with absorption. ABSORICA LD is different. Thanks to its innovative micronization technology that aids in absorption, ABSORICA LD can be taken twice a day, with or without food.

Break away from traditional meal requirements. No need to take ABSORICA LD with high fat meals such as this one.

Miss it? Skip it

Be sure to take ABSORICA LD as prescribed. But if you miss a dose, just skip that dose.

Be sure to discuss any medications you may be taking with your dermatologist, as well as any family history of mental illness.

For optimal absorption, most isotretinoin medications require a meal of 800-1000 calories, with 50% consisting of fat calories.

Encountering possible side effects

Just like with any medication, you could experience side effects while taking ABSORICA LD. Here are the side effects most often reported. For additional information, please see the Medication Guide or the FAQs.

When you first start taking ABSORICA LD, you may notice a worsening of your acne. These flare-ups should only last a short while before your skin starts getting visibly clearer.

When taking ABSORICA LD, you may experience dryness of the eyes, lips, and/or skin. This is typical, as ABSORICA LD decreases oil production in order to help you achieve clearer skin. Moisturizers and lip balms can help soothe your dryness until this subsides. Talk to your dermatologist about what may work best for you.

ABSORICA LD is a derivative of vitamin A, which can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. In order to protect your skin, you should be careful to avoid excessive sunlight and tanning beds. If you do spend time in the sun, be sure to apply sunscreen, wear a hat, or cover up with long sleeves and pants.

Other common side effects include back pain, joint or muscle pain, inflammation of the lips or skin, headaches, nosebleeds, common colds, upper respiratory tract infection, blurred eyesight, and increased blood creatine kinase.

If you experience any side effect that bothers you or does not go away, be sure to talk to your dermatologist.
