What is ABSORICA LD?

An isotretinoin with an innovative formulation to help achieve clearer skin that stays clear

For 40 years, dermatologists have trusted isotretinoin medications like ABSORICA LD (pronounced AB-SORE-I-KAH L-D) as an effective way to treat persistent severe (nodular) acne by preventing nodules from forming.

ABSORICA LD is a prescription medication used in patients 12 years of age and older for the treatment of severe nodular acne that cannot be cleared up by any other acne treatments, including antibiotics. You should not change between ABSORICA and ABSORICA LD or other isotretinoin products.

ABSORICA LD is a derivative of Vitamin A that works by reducing some of the inflammatory responses your body has that cause persistent severe (nodular) acne.

ABSORICA LD treats underlying causes of persistent severe (nodular) acne with lasting results.

With technology that aids in maximum absorption, ABSORICA LD has low rates of relapse and retreatment. What does that mean for you? With ABSORICA LD, you have a better chance of achieving clearer skin with just one 5-month treatment cycle, as seen in a 2-year, post-treatment period involving 166 patients taking ABSORICA® (isotretinoin) without meals for 20 weeks.

As seen in a clinical trial*, 95% of patients did not need to be treated with another isotretinoin after one 5-month treatment cycle.

In the same study*, 82% of patients did not need treatment with any other acne medication, prescription or over-the-counter.

Treat persistent severe (nodular) acne early and once with ABSORICA LD to avoid scarring

Not only does persistent severe (nodular) acne cause painful breakouts, but the inflammation that occurs could lead to scarring of your skin. Persistent severe (nodular) acne can be a condition that lasts for months or even years, so it’s important to speak to your dermatologist about an effective treatment as soon as possible to help reduce the risk of forming scars.

If your acne isn’t responding to treatment, you should consider talking to your dermatologist about how ABSORICA LD can help clear your skin with lasting results.

ABSORICA LD is a Low Dose formulation with maximum absorption

ABSORICA LD is unlike any other isotretinoin available—it has an innovative micronization formulation to help your body absorb it. This allows you to take lower doses of ABSORICA LD compared to other isotretinoins.

There are two features in the formulation of ABSORICA LD to help your body absorb the maximum amount of isotretinoin at a lower dose:

Micronized particles
ABSORICA LD with micronized technology consists of very small particles of isotretinoin. Small particles are absorbed by your body better than large ones. This means that your body is able to get the maximum amount of medication while taking less drug.

Lipid formulation
For any medication to work as intended, it needs to be absorbed. In order for most isotretinoin medications to be optimally absorbed, they need lipids (fats) from food to attach to. But ABSORICA LD is different. It can be taken with or without food for maximum absorption.

Understanding persistent severe (nodular) acne— how is it different from other forms of acne?

A skin disease that appears as many large, red, swollen nodules painful to the touch

May lead to scarring if left untreated

May affect how you see and feel about yourself

What are some of the causes of persistent severe (nodular) acne?

Genetic makeup
Some people are just more likely to experience persistent severe (nodular) acne than others due to how their bodies react to certain factors. If you’re experiencing it, it’s probably not the result of things that are within your control.

Hormonal imbalance
Your skin naturally produces oils from your glands, which helps keep your skin looking healthy. But sometimes hormones from puberty or stress can cause too much oil to be produced. This could create conditions that allow bacteria to grow and increase your risk of inflammation.

Overproduction of skin cells
Excess skin cells can settle into your pores and cause blockages, which may result in nodules.

Bacterial growth
Bacteria are commonly found on your skin, no matter how much you wash it. If there’s a combination of too much oil and excess skin cells, bacteria can begin to grow inside your pores. This can lead to inflammation and acne nodules.

Inflammation
Occurs as a result of bacterial growth or other immune responses. This can happen either deep within your skin or on the surface as large, red, and swollen nodules.
